Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
GameStop Game Advisor: At GameStop, I am a game advisor. What we do is help customers with basically advising games. We tell them about them. We try to be honest to customers, because that’s what they like most, so even if it’s bad or good, customers like that you’re honest, because they don’t want to buy a game and it’s not what they expected because we said, “Oh, this game is good, you should go and play it.” We don’t try to just sell the games. We let them know, “Well, this game isn’t that great”, and things like that. That’s what I do as a game advisor.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
GameStop Game Advisor: My favorite part about working there… I would have to say the games. I’m a game head, so I enjoy playing games. Having that benefit to be able to play the games and get the information that’s needed in order to tell customers as a game advisor is just great.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
GameStop Game Advisor: The application and interview process… well, you fill out an application is. If you are someone that they’re looking for, they give you a call, of course. They ask you to come in on a certain time of day. If it’s not okay, they can work with you to see what time you can come in.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
GameStop Game Advisor: What happened with me was, he came in, he told me a little bit about the job, what was required. Then he asked me a few questions: “Why did you choose to put in an application here?”, “What are your talents?”, “What would you say is a weakness for yourself?”, and so forth.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
GameStop Game Advisor: Just showing my face from time to time. I used to work at another job around there, so before I went in there, as a way to waste time, I just went in there as a game head so I enjoy just getting certain games and stuff like that. I think a lot of people feel that in order to work at those type of jobs you have to be completely in sync with all the games, but with anything you go into, you’re not going to be 100%, so you shouldn’t be scared to go for those jobs. Even with me, I like games, but it wasn’t like I knew about all of the games. I knew about certain ones that I liked. So, I guess what helped me was just going in there, talking to the guys, asking them what they thought about this game, and just continue to show face. After that, I decided to put in an application, they gave me a call, and the rest was history.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
GameStop Game Advisor: Just don’t be afraid. Once you put in your application, continue to go in there, and just show face. Ask questions, they love it when you ask questions, because it let them know that I was actually kind of interested in working there. So just don’t be afraid. Anything that you have on your mind, just ask, because they will answer it, so that’s the best advice I could give.
